As the defending Olympic champions entered the Ice Cube to compete for the first time in Beijing 2022, all eyes were on Canada.

After losing their first match, 6-4, to the world champions Great Britain, John Morris and Rachel Homan came back to defeat Norway, the Olympic bronze medalists, 7-6.

The Beijing National Aquatics Center hosted the mixed doubles curling competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics from February 2–8, 2022.

Ten countries participated in a preliminary round in a round-robin format, and the top four teams (Norway, Italy, Great Britain, and Sweden) advanced to the medal round.

The Winter Olympics will Feature Mixed Doubles for The Second Time This Year.

Italy benefited from an early Olympic schedule that saw them compete in their first five games against the four teams at the bottom of the rankings.

The Italians have just once played a 1-point game and have outscored their opponents 44-36 despite the weak schedule. Other than an 8-point victory over Czech Republic, their other four victories have all been by margins of four points (three times).

Italy defeated Great Britain, the reigning world champions, 7-5 on Saturday morning, demonstrating that their performance has not been an accident.

At 1:05 a.m. ET on Sunday, Italy will face China, another unranked team, but will then play Sweden and Canada, the Nos. 2 and 4 teams in the rankings, twice to complete round robin play.

If round robin play were to complete on Saturday, the four teams moving on to the semifinals would be Italy, Sweden, Great Britain, and Canada.

Team USA and Canada were tied for fourth going into Saturday morning, but Canada’s victory against Team USA in Session 9 helped the team of John Morris and Rachel Homan advance into a playoff berth.

Vicky Persinger and Chris Plys of the United States are now tied with Norway for fifth place. They will play the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Great Britain in their last three games.
